Can the rod be shortened?
Yes, it is cut to length at installation. That makes it as workable under a standard ceiling as it is in a stairwell where you want a long clean drop.
How low should it hang over a counter?
Thirty to thirty six inches between the worktop and the bottom of the cone. That gives usable task light while keeping the shade clear of your line of sight.
Does it swing or spin?
No. The rigid rod is exactly why this one is worth choosing over a cord pendant. It hangs straight and stays where you set it.
Can I hang several in a row?
Yes, and over an island a run of three looks excellent. Keep the rods the same length so the cones line up perfectly, which is far easier with rods than with cords.
What upkeep does it need?
Wipe the rod and the outside of the cone with a dry soft cloth a couple of times a year. Nothing wet on the stone and nothing abrasive on the brass.
