How low should I hang it?
Over a counter or island, leave roughly thirty to thirty six inches between the worktop and the bottom of the dome. Beside a bed, hang it just above the height of the mattress so it lights the page.
Can the cord be shortened?
Yes. The cord is set at installation, so your electrician cuts it to whatever drop the room needs. That means it works under a low ceiling and over a stairwell equally well.
How many do I need over an island?
Two for a small island, three for a standard one, spaced evenly with a little clearance at each end. The compact dome means a run of three looks intentional rather than heavy.
Does it throw shadows on a worktop?
Very little. The dome sends a broad pool of light straight down and the stone softens its edges, so you get usable task light without the hard rim you get from a metal shade.
What is the upkeep like?
Dust the dome with a dry soft cloth now and then, and keep sprays away from the stone. In a kitchen a quick wipe every few weeks keeps it looking new.
