Does light come through the fringe?
It filters through the strands and falls out of the open base, giving a soft dappled effect on the surfaces below. That texture in the light is the main reason to choose it.

Will the raffia shed?
Strands are fixed at the frame, so it holds together in normal use. Give it a gentle comb through with your fingers now and then to keep the fall even.
How high should it hang?
Measure to the bottom of the fringe rather than the frame, and keep about thirty inches above a table. Anywhere people walk, allow generous head clearance.
How do I clean it?
Vacuum on the lowest setting with a soft brush, or simply shake the dust out gently. Keep the raffia dry.
